ABOUT

Om Atre is a Network Security Engineer with practical experience in securing and monitoring enterprise networks through a combination of internships and academic projects. He brings a solid foundation in configuring dynamic routing protocols like OSPF and BGP, and implementing switching protocols such as VLANs and ACLs to support segmented, secure network infrastructures. Om has hands-on exposure to industry-standard tools and platforms including Palo Alto firewalls, Zscaler, VPN technologies, and AWS GuardDuty for access control and perimeter defense. His skill set extends to threat detection and vulnerability assessment using tools like Splunk, Snort, openVAS, Wireshark, and tcpdump. He is also proficient in cloud and virtualization technologies including AWS, Linux, and GCP, with working knowledge of Zero Trust, SSL/TLS, and AAA models. Om is comfortable operating within NOC/SOC environments and is well-versed in incident documentation and cross-team collaboration using platforms such as ServiceNow, JIRA, and Confluence.

WORK

Gloabal Technical Solutions Intern - Cybersecurity
Belden Inc.

At Belden, I developed a comprehensive framework to map the company’s cybersecurity capabilities and products to industry standards including NIST, 800-53, ISO, NERC CIP, and IEC. This tool supported internal and partner-led compliance assessments by aligning product features with regulatory requirements. I led the first-ever grading session with Product Managers and Security Engineers to identify compliance gaps and prioritize remediation efforts. In addition, I authored detailed documentation on assessment findings and remediation plans, and created cybersecurity training and sales enablement content that helped cross-functional teams effectively communicate security value to customers.

JUNE 2024 - DECEMBER 2024

Research Intern - Network Security
Armament Research & Development Establishment (DRDO)

During my time at Armament Research and Development Establishment, I developed a LAN security framework using SDN and virtualization, reduced endpoint vulnerabilities by 48% through infrastructure hardening, and strengthened email security with SPF, DKIM, and DMARC. I enhanced threat intelligence by leveraging AbuseIPDB to monitor and blacklist malicious IPs, contributing to a 60% drop in inbound threat activity. I also supported a ZTNA setup using Zscaler (ZIA, ZPA) to improve access policy enforcement for 50+ users and maintained thorough documentation of incidents and changes via ServiceNow and Confluence.
